Unmasking the autism cure
Sunday 22nd February 2026
12-1 pm (AEDT)
Cost: Pay what you can - tickets start at $10
The idea of “curing” autism is not just wrong—it’s harmful. It keeps the focus on fixing Autistic people instead of understanding and supporting them.
We will cover the incorrect beliefs that autism is caused by:
Toxic dietary factors or leaky gut
Childhood trauma or poor parenting
Vaccines
Lower immunity and external toxins
Paracetamol
And the associated cures that people invented to address these causes, including: ABA, restrictive diets, and holding therapy.

What do clinicians think about my workshops?
These comments are all from clinicians who have attended workshops designed for therapists.
"[The workshops] has helped a great deal. I am seeing more clients who have recently been diagnosed, so I now have some great resources to help.
- Aug 2025 Participant AV
"[The workshop] gave me some very practical tools to use for myself as well as tools I can imagine incorporating into my art therapy practice. [I have a] better understanding of what can be done prior to starting the work with a client to understand what support can be put in place (eg, intake form/screening). Better understanding of the risks of unmasking. Better understanding of the stages of change. Beginning understanding of polyvagal theory. " - Nov 2025 Participant BE
"[I gained" appropriate language and exercises to work with clients"
- Jul 2025 Participant TS
"I learned more about language, meaning, sensory safety (love that term), spikey profiles, monotropic styles, bottom up processing and how it relates to therapeutic techniques, and much more."
- Feb 2025 Participant SL
"[I have a] greater understanding of autism and how I can integrate this understanding into practice."
- Jul 2025 Participant BL
"The workshop has broadened my knowledge on sensory differences and learning about some of the differences that I was not aware of is of a bonus for me in my practice, and my clients. Do yourself a favour and do all of Jacqueline's workshop, you will be pleasantly surprised, and glad that you did."
- Sep 2025 Participant WM
"[I gained] a broader understanding of the sensory aspects of autism & how to support clients with collaborative approaches" - Sep 2025 Participant VT
Your workshop gave me greater insights and I particularly appreciated the discussion on autistic culture and 'double empathy' - I hadn't considered that Autistics found Allistic behaviours as 'weird' - my own 'ableism'! The information about Polyvagal Theory and the two practical self-regulating activities were particularly useful."
- May 2025 Participant MR
"Learning the practical counselling strategies and supports I can provide for my clients."
- Aug 2025 Participant TS
"Reflective and practical learning has provided space to engage with Jacqueline and other professionals doing the workshop. Exchanging understandings, listening to shared experiences and sharing stories provided connection, and acceptance."
- Sep 2025 Participant WM
"Although I prefer to observe rather than engage, the way that the hands on activities were presented were very manageable. They were very direct, I knew what I was being asked to do, and I like that the presenter moved on quite quickly and didn't pressure anyone to speak or engage. Engaging with the exercises felt quite comfortable and it is nice to understand what they are from a personal standpoint before implementing them in client work." - June 2025 Participants CS
"[The hands on activities] helped me think more deeply and learn from others"
- Jul 2025 participant GS
The task/ exercise that was given to externalise the internal feelings onto an object is also a really great idea. A lot of exercises are focused on the body or internal feeling states, and I do think for particular people this doesn't get great results. Drawing someones attention to outside of the body whilst keeping them connected appears to be much more emotionally safe and will get much better answers."
- June 2025 Participants CS
"The reflections deepened my knowledge and allowed me to think critically and analyse the topics presented."
- Feb 2025 Participant FW
"[The hands on activities] kept me focused and provided me with examples I can take into practice." - Jul 2025 Participant BL
"As a late diagnosed Audhd woman who is a counsellor. It was really helpful for providing frameworks for my practice (and that I can explain to people I work with). Some of the tasks really helped me see my Alexithymia and then also helped me consider different ways of doing things. Most helpful :) I feel really seen and validated, thank you! And also helped me work out why some things were not landing with my autistic clients, especially where Aphantasia might be present!"
- Feb 2025 Participant RA
"The resources & activities were helpful in understanding the breadth of sensory experiences."
- Sep 2025 Participant VT
"[The workshops] has helped a great deal. I am seeing more clients who have recently been diagnosed, so I now have some great resources to help.
- Aug 2025 Participant AV
"The resources are incredible, I appreciated the multiple different ways in which we were supported to participate and interact), and the lived experience and practical examples provided. The slides were great [and] enabled me to take notes as I went. They also appealed to the visual learner in me. The workbook and handouts are practical resources that I look forward to adding to my toolbox."
- Feb 2025 Participant SL
[The resources are an] easy to read format, not cluttered, practical, logical."
- Feb 2025 Participant RA
"The resources were excellent and met my autistic learning style and my autistic brain. I have now attended all of Jacqueline's workshops and I have retained all of the learning. I have embraced this learning to better understand myself, my clients. I have also shared the knowledge that I have learned in an autistic safe space with my clients so they too can understand themselves or their loved ones differently."
- Sep 2025 Particpant WM
"I learned more about language, meaning, sensory safety (love that term), spikey profiles, monotropic styles, bottom up processing and how it relates to therapeutic techniques, and much more."
- Feb 2025 Participant SL

- Aug 2025 Participant TS
"Jacqueline was wonderful and very knowledgeable. She facilitated the workshop in a nice flow and was encouraging of participation"
- Feb 2025 Participant FW
"I thought that Jacqueline was an excellent facilitator. She presented the information very clearly, and gave good reasons as to why the information was important. There was also a nice casual nature to the way she presented, of course the information was concise and well structured it was balanced by her friendliness and openness about the topic, and her person anecdotes really gave a fuller picture of the message she was getting across." - June 2025 Participants CS
"Jacqueline is amazing, transparent, and generous with time and knowledge"
- Sep 2025 Participant WM
Jacqui's deep knowledge and lived experience is invaluable! Really engaging and well-presented - the 2 hours went by quickly and I was sorry that it ended - that's always a good sign!"
- May 2025 Participant MR
"Jacqueline is fantastic, very knowledgeable & provided a non-judgemental space for learning"
- Sep 2025 Participant VT
